| Title: |
The
Dynamic Forest |
| Description of Resource: |
This
high energy film explains how forests work in space and time. Forests
are dynamic eco-systems dominated by trees. They undergo constant
change. Sometimes this change is gradual and sometimes this change
is rapid, a result of catastrophic events such as wildfires, windstorms,
volcanoes, droughts, insects, diseases, or floods. Change is also
caused by human activity such as burning or harvesting. The end
result is a mosaic of forest stands in different stages of ecological
succession. Each stage has a different structure facilitating biological
diversity.
This video shows how forests are shaped, how they function, and
how they can be managed sustainably for current and future generations.
By understanding how forests work in space and time, we put ourselves
in a position to make informed choices. |
