Title: The Mystery of the Disappearing Christmas Trees
Description of Resource: This Eco-Detective lesson on "The Mystery of the Disappearing Christmas Tree" begins with background information for the teacher regarding the environmental movement and it's emphasis on recycling to save resources. The eco-mystery presented to the students is: How might a new law requiring Americans to purchase artifical and reusable Christmas trees result in fewer trees in our countryside? Using eco-detection the students perform a series of group activities. Included in the lesson are instructional objectives and materials including visuals for transparencies and student handouts. In addition, the lesson includes discussion questions and answers, and a closure activity that reviews learning, provides a summary, or invites additional applications. Finally, the lesson ends with an assessment section including multiple-choice questions, essay questions, and suggestions for journal writing.
